V. Throwing Seminar
I have to put a caveat on video tape availability. They are not available to the the general public. Videos are made available to:
- Current and past students of the Victoria Villasin Balintawak Eskrima Association
- Those we know through a seminar that we have given
- Other instructors we know and are affilitated with in some fashion, and their students
- DVD's sell for $25.00 Canadian, plus shipping costs.
- VHS sell for $25.00 Canadian, plus shipping cost. Shipping costs for VHS are quite a bit higher than for DVD.
Available videos encompass both stick fighting, empty hand fighting and power generation.
I. The Lopez Sequences (comprehensive stick-based treatment of the use of the guarding hand for controlling, trapping, disarming, throwing; eye-witness testimony on two duels; 1-12 pairs demonstration; and, corridas demonstration):
- Video 1 - Sequences summary, information on dueling, demonstration of basic 1-12 and corridas practice session
- Video 2 - teaching sequences (trapping, disarming, throwing)
- Video 3 - continuation of teaching sequences (trapping, disarming, throwing)
These are well made, and you should be happy with them. The stick tapes showcase the skills of Dr. Dom Lopez. His performances are excellent. I explain things very well on all of the tapes. I can't give you precise timings for each, but around 40-45 minutes each. These are not videos done by a professional camera man, so don't expect to see Panther Video quality, but the content is extensive, and anyone who has ever seen them says that the explanations are first rate. The overall value is quite good.II. Villasin Balintawak Eskrima Complete - Videos 1 and 2:
- Video 1 - Historical Background and Fundamentals (rehearsal tape - good content but not final edit yet)
- Video 2 - Basic and Advanced Twelve Pairs drills (rehearsal tape - good content but not final edit yet)
This all-day session was meant to be a rehearsal (not the final shoot), and I have done a preliminary edit (not the final edit). The content is still very good, even though it was a rehearsal, and there is over 2 hours as edited. There is a lot of "rolling text" explanation that I intend to take out in a subsequent edit. If you don't like to read, you can fast forward through some sections where there is a written explanation prior to the action.III. Muestra of Balintawak Eskrima (the formal empty hand techniques against punches and kicks, with many counters)
- video 1 - the core empty hand block and counter techniques
- video 2 - the empty hand blocking, hitting, trapping, bone breaking, restraining, clinching, turning, off-balancing techniques and more
I am not pleased with my performance on these. It was not my best since we shot without rehearsal. Nevertheless, the content is very complete and the performance is fine for teaching purposes. You still get value for money, if you like our art.IV. Power Generation
For your amusement, I have a very rough DVD on power generation. It was not meant to be anything other than a rough sketch of a future tape, as I tried to clarify my presntation patter and sequence. I decided to package it up with titles anyway, until I get around to shooting a more polished version. The ducks in the background will make it hard to hear - so much for shooting in a park. The price on this one is $15 Canadian.Planned Videosos
